The journey for Morakniv began in 1891 when Frost-Erik Erson returned home to the village of Östnor in Mora after four years in North America. When he started his own vehicle factory, the first seeds were sown for what would eventually become the company and brand Morakniv as we know it today.
At first, Frost-Erik only manufactured knives for the factory's internal use, but production would soon grow. Morakniv as a concept was well-known in Sweden already at the end of the 19th century, precisely because of the region's long tradition of manufacturing. The knives from Mora had then been distributed to users outside the country through farm traders or through barter. With the founding of the factory, production could grow and more and more knives could be sent out both in Sweden and the world.
