Kel-Met KM2000 Rigid Handcuffs are a widely recognized choice among police forces, state agencies, and private security organizations around the globe. Distinguished by their reinforced build paired with a plastic grip.

Stainless steel construction

Constructed from stainless steel in accordance with the PN-EN 10088-1 standard , the product offers durability and safety. The material is non-toxic, resistant to mechanical impacts, and does not trigger allergic responses. No galvanic coatings such as nickel or zinc are present on the handcuffs, meeting the requirements of EU directive 76/769/EEC-94/27/EEC for items intended for skin contact, as well as upcoming national regulations.

Structure and mechanism

The kit includes two wrist cuffs reinforced with a plastic grip . Housed within the grip is an armored-type steel chain that links the cuffs together through swiveling joints . The construction of the cuffs is designed to reduce the likelihood of abrasions or injuries when used correctly. Featuring generous ankle openings , they address specific requirements identified by Polish uniformed services.

Crafted with steel parts, the cuffs utilize a double-pawl locking system and a movable ratchet arm . Each cuff is fitted with a ratchet lock which engages at any chosen position to prevent excessive tightening. Accidental release protection is activated by a pin on the key ; depressing the pin secures the lock, while turning the key disengages it.

Strength requirements

Handcuffs are engineered to resist static loads, demonstrating durability under significant force.

  • A tensile load of 2300 N is exerted in the plane of one cuff while the other remains immobilized in its holder. Upon release of the applied force, the handcuffs maintain their complete operational integrity.
  • A bending force of 500 N is directed perpendicular to the cuff's plane at the point furthest from the attachment, with no permanent deformation resulting.
  • Standards and certifications

Kel-Met handcuffs are manufactured in accordance with the following standards:

    • PN-EN 10088-1 – standard specifying the chemical composition and mechanical characteristics of stainless steel.
    • 76/769/EEC-94/27/EEC – EU directive limiting the use of heavy metals, such as nickel, in items intended for skin contact. The handcuffs are free from nickel and zinc coatings.
    • KGP Standard – meets the specifications of the Polish National Police Headquarters for design, security, and operational performance.
