This Shemagh, Palestinian shawl is a traditional headgear originating in the Middle East / Arab culture developed from the Arab turban - and has been used by them for centuries. Nowadays it is perhaps most publicly known as used by the Palestinians. To the Western world and - in military use - the British SAS (Special Air Service) discovered the Shemagh's potential while operating in the deserts of North Africa during WW2. It has been a popular and valuable part of SAS soldiers' equipment since and has spread from there.
